No oatmeal?!?!??!?!??!?!

(There’s free granola to win if you click here though!)

Yup…BUT I got to attend a breakfast meeting downtown and they had an awesome buffet of merely 4 items: Smoked salmon, Bagels, scrambled eggs, and a fresh fruit platter. Since it was all business-y, I couldn’t take pictures, but thanks to google images, I found pretty much exactly what I had.

Smokin’ in the Mornin’

Half a toasted poppy-seed bagel with 6 big slices of smoked salmon and lots of onions. I had onion breath until lunch. (I usually hate bagels because they’re so dry, but when you have 6 layers of salmon on top, dry-ness isn’t an issue. muahahhaha)

I also had a really sweet fruit plate loaded with honey dew, cantaloupe, pineapples, blueberries, & raspberries. (no grapes or strawberries)

fruit-plate2The salmon was SO filling that I didn’t need any mid-morning snacks! I also ate lunch 30 minutes later than usual and I even let all the ravenous co-workers hog the microwave first!! (Including “Ms. I-like-making-snide-comments-on-your-food”!)

When East meets West

I always get super excited when there’s at least one highlight to my lunch. Today’s highlight is clearly the “Eastern” side of the ensemble that the boyfriend packed for me to bring to work as a side dish. The main is a sandwich of: Sun-dried Tomato & Basil Hummus with a kirby cucumber on TJ’s sprouted rye bread (Toasting it dries the bread out WAY too much!!! Boo), baby carrots, and baked chips.

The featured side is a traditional Chinese braised (beef) tendon with daikon radish and eggs in a soy sauce & star anise broth. I found a recipe that is sort of similar to how Nick made his, but honestly, we don’t follow one. The recipe online calls for you cook it for 2 hours, but we leave it overnight  so everything absorbs the rich flavors and colors of the sauces. SO SO SO DELICIOUS. I’m not even kidding.

*Fun Fact* I don’t eat beef at all (due to family religious beliefs) and over the years have lost the enzymes to break down the bacteria in cow protein, so I always get sick in the stomach when I eat beef by mistake, but tendon seems to be A-OK.

Feeling my gum’s itch for some crunch, I had a granny smith apple and a bag of mixed nuts & pretzels.

The bar I tried.

A Great(!!!!) Date With Chocolate

imported-photos-006902

Stats: 140 Calories, 1.5g fat, 31g carbs, 4g fiber, 8g protein

Ingredients: Dates, Whey Protein, Honey, Cocoa

First Impression: So few ingredients – alot like a Larabar, but with protein! It’s Shaped like a Clif bar, but smaller and SO DARN sticky (I almost could take it out of the wrapper)!!

Taste: Imagine a sticky, dense, moist, and slightly fruity BROWNIE. Seriously, like a fudge double chocolate brownie. This is what is tasted like. Period. Apart from the fact that it was a tad on the sweeter side, everything else about this bar yelled “indulgent dessert”!!!!! Give me more!!!!

Texture: REALLY moist and really sticky,!!! This bar clung to the wrapper and my fingers (when I tried to “break off a piece) for dear life. It was soft and smooth, with no crunch or chewy components, that I surprisingly didn’t miss at all!!!

Overall: 9/10!!!

One of the best tasting, yet most natural and wholesome bars I have EVER tried!!!! I love that it has more protein and more fiber than Larabars, but has so much flavor (chocolate-ness) and purity that so many other bars lack. My tummy was very happy afterwards. The only complaint I have for my “date” was the stickiness.

Anthony, if you’re reading this, THANK YOU!!! And YUMMMMM!!!
